STONEHAVEN ICELANDICS Welcome and introduction
One of the special features of all pure bred Icelandic horses around the world is that they can trace their pedigrees to horses originally born in Iceland. The breed is descended from horses that were taken to Iceland by the Vikings and since then no horses have been imported to Iceland for over 1000 years. The modern Icelandic horse preserves many of the original characteristics yet has been bred and adapted into a superb modern pleasure riding horse. This makes the Icelandic horse one of the purest and most unique breeds in the world. Today the Icelandic horse is a popular horse enjoyed and bred as much abroad as in its home country. This tradition of pure Icelandic horse breeding has continued at Rickarton, Stonehaven since 1972, firstly under the stud name "Rickarton" by J F Holman OBE and Lady Diana Holman, and from 1987 under the stud name "Stonehaven" by Clive and Liz Phillips. Clive and Liz Phillips welcome you the Stonehaven Icelandics web site and invite you to get in touch if you are interested in finding out more.
